A few months back, I started a spreadsheet to record every minute of playing time in the Jurgen Klinsmann era. Here is the latest update with additions from the Gold Cup, the Bosnia friendly and the September and October World Cup qualifiers.
Some interesting tidbits
Tim Howard leads all USMNT players with 2,546 minutes.
Clarence Goodson, despite being considered a second-choice center-back for the U.S. by many, is fifth in minutes with 1,716.
Landon Donovan, even with his long off-season sabbatical, is eighth with 1,478 minutes.
Carlos Bocanegra, despite not playing a single minute in the U.S.’ last 21 games, is still 10th in minutes played under Klinsmann.
Mix Diskerud, Alejandro Bedoya, Stuart Holden and Joe Corona had a combined 64 minutes heading into July. Now they have a combined 2,115 minutes. Quite a turnaround for that group.
Champions League midfielder Sacha Kljestan is way down at 35th in minutes for the USMNT.
